Green Week 2005 - Changing our Behaviour

Vamos falar para o MUNDO?

Since 2003, Green Week is organised in the week prior to World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June. It is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. By linking Green Week to World Environment Day, the European Commission supports this objective.World Environment Day wants to give a human face to environmental issues; empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development; promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues; and advocate partnership which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.World Environment Day is a people's event with colourful activities such as street rallies, bicycle parades, green concerts, essays and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, as well as recycling and clean-up campaigns.
The World Environment Day theme selected for 2005 is Green Cities and the slogan is Plan for Planet!
The main international celebrations of the World Environment Day 2005 will be held in San Francisco, California, USA.World Environment Days does so focus on the challenges raised by one of the major trends of our times: the rapidly increasing proportion of people who are living in urban environments. In the next quarter-century, almost all population growth will occur in cities, most of it in less developed countries. By 2030, more than 60 per cent of the world's population will live in urban areas. The environmental consequences of urban growth are considerable. Cities are prolific users of natural resources and generators of waste. They produce most of the greenhouse gases that are causing global climate change. They often degrade local water quality, deplete aquifers, pollute the marine environment, foul the air and consume the land, thereby devastating biological diversity.

Podemos contar convosco? Espero que sim.Quem tiver boas ideias pode deixá-las. O país, o mundo e o futuro agradecem.
